Biography

David Marvin Blake (born January 18, 1970) — known professionally as DJ Quik or Da Quiksta — is an American rapper, record producer, and DJ from Compton, California.

He emerged in the late 1980s selling homemade mixtapes (notably The Red Tape in 1987) and by the early 1990s had secured a major record deal.

His debut album Quik Is the Name (1991) featured the hit single “Tonite” and quickly went platinum, establishing Quik as one of the leading voices of West Coast hip hop.

Beyond his own albums, Quik’s production and mixing talents have been sought by major artists, and he is known for blending funk, soul and hip hop into his signature sound — the “G-funk” style.

Over the decades, Quik has released numerous albums including Way 2 Fonky (1992), Rhythm-al-ism (1998) and The Midnight Life (2014).

Today, he remains a sought-after live performer, artist, and mentor in the music industry — offering booking opportunities for events, appearances and collaborations.
